Letter: The waistline of politicians

To the Editor:

I appreciated Scott Reeder’s opinion column on Dec. 3 calling us to “evaluate politicians on actions and policies, not their waistline.”

Mr. Reeder’s primary focus seemed to stem from the recent comments attacking Gov. Pritzker’s waistline. In logic, I think they call those ad hominem attacks.

For the past four years, I feel like opponents of President Donald Trump have been using similar ad hominem attacks. We could all take a lesson from Mr. Reeder and stick to attacking policies, not waistlines – proverbial or literal.

Personally, I think President Trump has done a great job as president with effective policies to make our nation safer, stronger and better. He’s been a champion for the unborn baby, the traditional family, Judeo Christian values and the security and strength of our nation’s borders.

On the other hand, I feel Gov. Pritzker’s policies, specifically regarding COVID-19, have been far too restrictive and are unfairly taking away the livelihood of too many. I also disagree with his attempts to raise taxes during COVID-19.

If our state needs more money for something, we should rely on our savings or make cuts somewhere else, just like we as ordinary Americans do at home.
