Man killed in single-vehicle crash in Lake in the Hills, fire deputy chief says

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, in the 1100 block of West Algonquin Road in Lake in the Hills, the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District deputy chief said.

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Lake in the Hills, the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District deputy chief said.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday to the 1100 block of West Algonquin Road, which is near Pyott Road, where they found a pickup truck rolled over, according to a police department news release and Deputy Fire Chief John Knebl.

The driver of the vehicle was dead, and no one was taken to the hospital, he said.

The vehicle, a black Toyota Tacoma, was driving west when it lost control, struck a guardrail and flipped over, landing on its roof, the Lake in the Hills Police Department said in the release. No other vehicles were involved.

The cause of the accident was under investigation by the department’s traffic accident investigation unit, the department said.

Lake in the Hills police issued a Nixle traffic advisory about 9:30 p.m. to avoid the area of Algonquin between Hilltop Drive and Pyott Road for several hours while the preliminary investigation was being conducted.

The fire protection district remained on the scene for about five hours to light up the area for the crash investigation, he said.

An attempt to reach the Lake in the Hills Police Department Thursday morning was not successful.

McHenry County Coroner Michael Rein declined to comment pending next-of-kin notification.
