No injuries reported in fire at Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital

Fire was put out before firefighters arrived by hospital security officers, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District says

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responds to a fire around 8 p.m. on Dec.31,2021.

A small fire was reported at Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital Saturday evening, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District said.

Fire personnel were dispatched at 8:04 p.m. Saturday for a reported fire and explosion in the security office near the hospital’s emergency department, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District said in a Facebook post.

Firefighters arrived within six minutes, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District said, and determined that a “minor fire” had already been extinguished before emergency crews arrived.

The fire had occurred because a battery jump starter ignited on the countertop. This fire was contained to the immediate area, the fire district said.

No injuries were reported, and no evacuations was done, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District spokesman Alex Vucha said. Firefighters ventilated the area because two fire extinguishers had been used, Vucha said.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District said the fire is not thought to be suspicious in nature, and the cause is still under investigation.

“We want to thank the security officers for their professionalism in extinguishing the fire prior to our arrival,” Vucha said.
