A chemical spill injured multiple employees late Monday night at Dean Foods, 6303 Maxon Road, according to a news release from the Harvard Fire Protection District.
Emergency crews were called about 10 p.m. to the plant and found that an attempt to clean up a small spill that involved chemicals being combined.
Several employees then complained of various injuries because of a reaction to the chemicals, according to the release.
Harvard fire crews requested assistance from neighboring emergency responders to get more ambulances because of the number of patients injured and to bolster its hazardous materials team to neutralize the spill and make the area safe.
The injured employees were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening, fire officials said.
Once the scene was safe, it was turned over to Dean Foods management, according to the release.
