Bethany Lutheran’s Art Series to return with ALLOY Horn Quartet

The quartet will perform 3 p.m. Sunday

Bethany Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake is bringing back its Arts Series with a performance by a horn quartet.

ALLOY Horn Quartet will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Crystal Lake church, located at 76. W. Crystal Lake Ave. The event is free and open to the public, according to a news release. The series celebrates the Clarence & Agnes Carlson Memorial Pipe Organ and has been held since 2002, with the exception of a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The quartet is a group of four music teachers from the greater Chicago area: Liz Deitmyer, Anna Jacobson, Kelly Langerberg, and Dana Sherman. They hold positions at Northern Illinois University, Sherwood Conservatory, the Music Institute of Chicago, and the University of Chicago among other schools. They often play with orchestras throughout the area as well.

“Whether performing classical or contemporary genres, the quartet is at ease sharing its passion with audiences,” organizers said in the release.

Bethany’s organist, Ruth Ann Poppen, will accompany the quartet during some selections.

The concert is being held in honor of the Rev. Robert E. Linstrom, who was a founding member of the Arts Series. Linstrom passed away in July.

While the event is free, the church will be taking donations.
