The Richmond Township Fire Protection District responded Thursday night to a report of a campfire that officials said ended up close to various structures because of the wind.
About 9 p.m. Thursday, crews responded to the area near West Solon and Pioneer roads in Richmond after reports of a fire involving various scraps, Deputy Chief Eric Schwind said.
The fire was called in by someone who passed through the area, officials said. Recreational fires only are allowed on the weekends when winds are less than 10 mph, officials said, meaning a fire Thursday night was prohibited.
Three fire units, including a chief unit, water tender and standard fire engine, responded to the scene, officials with the department said. Originally, the department put out an alert to other fire units in the area, but the alert was canceled because of the “small nature” of the incident, Schwind said.
No injuries resulted from the fire, officials said Friday morning.
