Volleyball: Spring 2021 Northwest Herald All-Area team

FIRST TEAM

Rachel Kaczorowski, Jacobs, jr., S

Kaczorowski surpassed 1,500 career assists and led all area players in the COVID-19-shortened season with 305 assists. She added 19 aces, 25 kills, 17 blocks and 54 digs for the Golden Eagles, who took third in both the Fox Valley Conference regular season and end-of-season tournament.

Kylie Schulze, Woodstock North, so., S

Schulze was named Kishwaukee River Conference Player of the Year after leading the Thunder to their first conference championship with a perfect 10-0 KRC record. Schulze recorded 191 assists in 10 matches and led North with 28 aces. She was second on the team in service points (75) and digs (82) and a finalist for Northwest Herald Player of the Year.

Maddy McCormick, Crystal Lake Central, sr., OH

McCormick, the Spring 2021 Northwest Herald Volleyball Player of the Year, was the top hitter for the FVC champion Tigers, who dropped only one set in conference play. The three-year varsity starter led Central’s powerful attack with 85 kills, adding 11 aces, 87 digs and 17 blocks. McCormick is a two-time All-Area first-team pick and will play next year at Colorado State.

Lauren Passaglia, Cary-Grove, sr., S-RS

Passaglia, a three-sport athlete (basketball, soccer) at C-G, was instrumental to the Trojans finishing fourth in the FVC and was nominated by multiple coaches for Northwest Herald Player of the Year. Passaglia will play next year at Hillsdale College.

Madeline Timmerman, Crystal Lake Central, sr., MB

Timmerman, a four-year varsity starter for the Tigers, finished the season with 67 kills, 18 aces and 48 blocks. Central was unbeaten in the FVC regular season (9-0) and swept its three matches in the FVC tournament to capture its second conference title in four years. Timmerman will play next year at Eastern Michigan.

Maggie Wallenberger, Jacobs, sr, OH

Wallenberger led all FVC players with 113 kills, adding 15 aces, 10 blocks and 28 digs for the Eagles. The Southern Illinois commit came up big in many matches for Jacobs, which finished 7-5 overall and advanced to the FVC tournament semifinals.


Karina Simatos, Crystal Lake Central, sr., L

Simatos wrapped up an impressive career for the Tigers, recording an area-leading 170 digs in 13 matches and adding 20 aces. She finished as the program’s second all-time leader in that category with 1,026 career digs, which included 449 and 406 as a sophomore and junior, respectively. Simatos will play next year at Bradley.
