Girls tennis: 2021 Northwest Herald All-Area team

First Team

Singles

Huntley's Ruhi Gulati

Ruhi Gulati, Huntley, sr.

Gulati is now a three-time All-Area first-team selection after winning the Fox Valley Conference No. 1 singles championship. Gulati lost only three games on her way to winning that title, helping the Red Raiders repeat as team champions in the process. Gulati then finished second at the Class 2A Harlem Sectional. She lost her two matches in the Class 2A State Tournament.

Johnsburg's Gracie Cittadino

Gracie Cittadino, Johnsburg, sr.

Cittadino was the KRC Tournament runner-up to Richmond-Burton’s Savannah Webb. She then finished third in the Class 1A Antioch Sectional behind Grayslake Central’s Karishma Bhalla and Webb. Cittadino had a solid Class 1A State Tournament, going 3-2 and finishing one round short of the quarterfinals.

The Northwest Herald Player of the Year is a repeat first-team selection. Webb does not have a high school team and only plays in the Kishwaukee River Conference Tournament and the IHSA postseason series. She won the KRC Tournament, placed second in the Class 1A Antioch Sectional, then took fifth in the Class 1A State Tournament. Webb lost to Grayslake Central’s Karishma Bhalla in three sets for the sectional championship, then beat her in straight sets in the state fifth-place match.

Doubles

Jacobs' Kaya Trumbo and Isha Desai

Kaya Trumbo, sr./Isha Desai, sr., Jacobs

Trumbo is a repeat first-team selection after teaming with Lara Santa-Ines last season to win the FVC No. 1 doubles title. Desai is a three-time first-team selection, having won the No. 2 singles FVC championship. They lost a total of five games in three FVC Tournament matches. They finished third at the Class 2A Jacobs Sectional and went 2-2 in the Class 2A State Tournament.

Huntley's Kylie Phommasack and Dyllan Cash

Kylie Phommasack, sr./Dyllan Cash, sr., Huntley

Phommasack is a three-time All-Area first-team selection, making it the previous two seasons with former doubles partner Michelle Barnvos. Cash was a second-team selection last year with doubles partner Talia Duffy. The pair was FVC runner-up and took third in the Class 2A Harlem Sectional.

Crystal Lake Central's Olivia Johnson and Megan Rapisarda

Olivia Johnson, sr./Megan Rapisarda, sr., Crystal Lake Central

Johnson and Rapisarda were All-Area second-team selections last year in doubles. They took fourth in the FVC Tournament, losing three-set matches to Huntley in the semifinals and Hampshire in the third-place match. Johnson and Rapisarda were 19-9 overall, 5-3 in FVC dual matches and finished fifth in the Class 2A Jacobs Sectional, missing a state berth by one spot.

Hampshire's Karolina Ryzka and Clare Hahn

Karolina Ryzka, sr./Clare Hahn, sr., Hampshire

Ryzka was an honorable-mention selection last year with doubles partner May Kimura. Ryzak and Hahn finished third in the FVC Tournament, winning a three-set match over Central’s Olivia Johnson and Megan Rapisarda for third place.
