Jacobs rolled personal bests in Hornets’ first boys bowling dual in school history

Harvard’s Logan Jacobs jumped at the opportunity to join the school’s boys bowling team after he found out the Hornets were competing in the sport for the first time.

Jacobs, a team captain, had a standout debut performance, rolling personal bests with a match-high 489 series and match-high 198 game in Harvard’s first boys bowling dual in school history at J’s Lanes in Harvard. Jacobs and the Hornets have stayed busy this season, competing in four duals and an invite in Rockford over the weekend.

The Hornets standout bowler was voted Northwest Herald Athlete of the Week by readers and recently talked to sports writer Alex Kantecki about competing on the first bowling team at Harvard, what he likes to do in his free time, his John Deere collection and more.

What made you want to join the boys bowling team at Harvard?

Jacobs: When I found out a bowling team was available at Harvard, I thought to myself, ‘That is going to be my sport and I should join!’

What has been the best part about being on the team so far?

Jacobs: The best part of being on the team is being team captain, being a part of a team and watching my team continuously get better. I have enjoyed meeting new people and getting to know my coach.

How did you first get into bowling and what do you most like about the sport?

Jacobs: I’ve been bowling since I was 5 or 6 years old with family. When I got to my teens, my aunt and uncle told me, ‘You are really good at this sport. You should join a league or the high school bowling team.’ I like this sport because it is a fun sport to play. You can do the math inside your head and place your feet to where you want the ball to go.

What are three of your favorite movies or TV shows?

Jacobs: “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Med” and “Chicago P.D.”

What’s your favorite wild animal?

Jacobs: A Florida panther.

What is the best birthday present you’ve ever received?

Jacobs: A Blackhawks shirt from my grandma.

What’s something that people outside your family or team wouldn’t know about you

Jacobs: That I like to play hockey a lot. I like playing video games, baseball and football. Something my team would not know is that I like the Wisconsin Badgers. I like watching the Golden State Warriors.

What is your favorite food?

Jacobs: Orange chicken and pasta.

What celebrity would you most like to hang with for a day?

Jacobs: Stephen Curry.

What is your most prized possession?

Jacobs: My John Deere collection.

What do you like to do when you have some free time?

Jacobs: I like to hang out with my friends, and I like to hang out with my family and play with my brothers.
