CL South boys soccer hands Whitefish Bay its 1st loss of the season

Crystal Lake South’s boys soccer team traveled to Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, on Saturday and handed Whitefish Bay its first loss of the season.

Tom Coughlin delivered the unassisted game-winner for the Gators (11-2-1).

Prairie Ridge 2, Burlington Central 1: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves notched a FVC win.

Zion Smeja had a goal and an assist, Henry Knoll scored once, and Daniel Llanquiman made six saves in the victory.

Marian Central 3, Nazareth 2: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes (7-8) came back from a late 2-1 deficit to pick up a win.

Nate Iafigliola scored on an assist from Matt Garrelts in the first half, Garrelts later tied the match at 2 in the second half, and Dominic Aragona scored the eventual game-winner on an assist from Jacob Bonnet.

Dundee-Crown 2, Conant 0: At Hoffman Estates, the Chargers (7-3-1) picked up a shutout win.

David Smiech made five saves, Juan Pacheco scored in the first half and Ashton Ajroja scored on an assist from Miguel Pena in the second half.

Hononegah Invite: At Rockton, Huntley (11-2) beat Belvidere North, 3-0, and Hononegah, 2-0. Thomas Rodriguez, Drew Tafur and Jett Zuleger scored against Belvidere North, and Rodriguez and Hayes Porsche had goals in the win against Hononegah.

Zuleger, Rodriguez, Tafur, Hudson Nielsen and TJ Gerst each tallied assists for the Red Raiders. Aidan Huber and Ethan Kornas split halves at goalie in both games in the pair of shutouts.

VOLLEYBALL

Prospect Invite: At Mount Prospect, Crystal lake South went 4-1 on its way to a third-place finish.

The Gators (14-1) defeated Palatine (25-19, 25-17), Jefferson (25-10, 25-14), Oswego East (25-23, 25-21) and Lake Park (25-10, 25-14) and fell to St. Viator (25-12, 25-22) for their first loss of the season.

Jessie Proszenyak recorded 30 kills, 28 digs, 11 blocks and seven aces. Gabby Wire had 25 kills and 15 blocks. Megan Langdon had 35 blocks and 15 kills. Alyssa Zagroba had 48 digs and nine aces, and Faith Gruenweld had 90 assists.

GIRLS TENNIS

Crystal Lake Central Invite: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers took second place at the eight-team invite.

Their team total of 39 trailed only Warren’s 42. St. Charles East finished third at 35, and Prairie Ridge was fourth at 28.

JUCO VOLLEYBALL

Parkland College Invite: At Champaign, the Scots finished 1-3 at the two-day event, beating Muskegon (Michigan), 25-23, 25-22, 25-23, for their lone win. Courtney Knutson had 17 kills and six digs, Skyler Raygoza had 13 kills, and Hannah Baudin had 34 assists and six kills.

MCC (16-7) lost to Vincennes (Indiana), 25-15, 19-25, 25-23, 26-24, Des Moines Area Community College (Iowa), 25-19, 22-25, 28-26, 25-17 and Kirkwood (Iowa), 25-18, 20-25, 25-9, 25-11.
