High school sports roundup for Tuesday, Sept. 14

Huntley picked up a Fox Valley Conference win Tuesday by taking down the Whip-Purs, 25-15, 25-19, in Hampshire.

Georgia Watson led the Raiders (7-1, 6-1) with seven kills and four digs, Maggie Duyos had 12 assists to go with eight digs, and Lauren Bauer added 13 digs.

The loss dropped the Whips to 9-8 overall and 2-5 in the FVC.

St. Viator 2, Marian Central 0: At Arlington Heights, the Hurricanes were no match for the undefeated Lions in a 25-14, 25-16 road loss.

Ella Conlon and Danielle Lipinsky had four kills each for Marian.

Byron 2, Richmond-Burton 0: At Byron, the Rockets suffered a 25-21, 27-25 loss to drop to 4-7 on the season.

Maggie Uhwat had six kills and seven digs, and Elissa Furlan had four kills and three digs.

Crystal Lake South 2, McHenry 0: At Crystal Lake, the Gators took down the Warriors, 25-23, 25-19, to improve to 7-0 both overall and in the FVC.

Jessie Proszenyak had six kills, 10 digs and three aces for South, Morgan Jones had seven kills and nine digs, and Faith Gruenwald had 19 assists to go with nine digs and four blocks.

Burlington Central 2, Crystal Lake Central 1: At Burlington, the Rockets were able to fend off the Tigers despite an impressive 21-kill performance from CLC’s McKenna Timmerman.

Timmerman also had nine digs and three aces. Lauren Klutke had 20 assists, and Molly Vittetoe had 13 digs.

Jacobs 2, Cary-Grove 0: At Cary, the Golden Eagles improved to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the FVC with a 25-19, 25-8 win.

Ireland Van Stone had seven kills and two digs for Jacobs, Meredith Giustino had 10 digs, and Rachel Kaczorowski posted 15 assists to go with six digs and three blocks.

Dundee-Crown 2, Prairie Ridge 1: At Carpentersville, the Chargers secured their first FVC win of the season by taking down the Wolves, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20.

Prairie Ridge fell to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the FVC.

Woodstock North 2, Waukegan 0: At Woodstock, the Thunder improved to 10-2 on the season with a comfortable 25-5, 25-16 win.

Kylie Schulze had three kills, six digs and 16 assists in the win, Avery Crabill had six kills and three blocks and Alyssa Wickersheim added three kills and seven digs.

Monday’s result

Kaneland 2, Marian Central 0: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes lost the nonconference match to the Knights, 25-10, 25-16. Valle Leggett tallied four kills and two blocks for Marian (1-8), Ella Conlon had three kills and two blocks, Hailey Piwonka had six digs and an ace, Danielle Lipnisky had two kills, and Jessica Passi had nine digs.

BOYS SOCCER

Prairie Ridge 2, McHenry 0: At Crystal Lake, Daniel Llanquimann made four saves in a clean-sheet win at home over the FVC rival Warriors.

Henry Knoll and Ethan Ormsby each scored once for the Wolves, while Jake Pinkerton and Nathan O’Hanian had one assist apiece.

Hampshire 3, Westminster 3: At Elgin, the Whip-Purs played the undefeated Warriors to a stalemate on the road.

GIRLS GOLF

Huntley 169, Hampshire 205: At Pinecrest, the rout was on for the Red Raiders in a FVC takedown of the Whips.

Hallie Holmes led all scorers with a medal-winning round of 38 and Abby Goraj was close behind with a 39. Lily Farnam was tops for Hampshire with a 41.

Richmond-Burton 233, Marengo 235: At Nippersink, the Rockets snagged a narrow Kishwaukee River Conference win at home.

Monday’s result

Nazareth Academy 173, Marian Central 184: At Carriage Greens in Darien, Ella Notaro and Ava Notaro both shot a 5-over-par 40 for the Hurricanes in the East Suburban Catholic Conference defeat to the Roadrunners. Nina Notaro and Jordyn Kratochvil each had 52s to round out the scoring for Marian.

BOYS GOLF

Harvard 198, Johnsburg 203: At Oak Grove, a medal-winning outing from Logan Garafol led the way for the Hornets in a hard-fought KRC win.

Garafol shot 42 to lead the way for Harvard, and Myles Bricks was close behind with a 45. The Skyhawks were led by Mike Link, who shot a 43.

Niles Notre Dame 159, Marian Central 168: At Willow Creek, the Hurricanes were handed a loss on the road in spite of a strong all-around performance.

Owen Jager and Finn Pivnicka each shot 40 for Marian, Cayden Leonard shot 42 and Declan Pivnicka rounded out the qualifiers with a 43.

Jacobs 174, Cary-Grove 177: At Foxford, the Golden Eagles came out on top in a hard-fought FVC battle with the Trojans.

Justin Cuttingham led the way for Jacobs with a 40, while teammate Jason Seaholm was just behind with a 41 and Ben Glockner shot a 36. The Trojans matched the Eagles’ top three shot for shot, however, as Maddux Tarasievich (40), Tom Fornelli (41) and Kyle Kotlarczyk (46) topped their score card.

The difference for Jacobs was a 47 from Barrett Rennel to round out the qualifying scores as he edged C-G’s number-four scorer by three strokes.

Woodstock Co-op 165, Marengo 203: At Marengo Ridge, Brady Heeren led the way for Woodstock with a round of 40 in a road victory over Marengo.

Frank Ferru and Luke Trewyn each shot 41 in the victory and Sam Berry shot 43 as Woodstock improved to 5-1 in the KRC.

Huntley 156, Hampshire 163: At Randall Oaks, the Red Raiders remain perfect against FVC competition at 8-0 following a win over the Whips.

Danny Sheedy led the way for Huntley with a medal-winning round of 37, Josh Good shot 38 and Nathan Elm shot 39. Seth Gillie was tops for Hampshire with a 38 in the loss.

GIRLS TENNIS

Crystal Lake Central 7, Hampshire 0: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers were dominant at home en route to a clean sweep of the Whip-Purs.

The commanding win improved CLC to 11-2 overall and 3-1 against FVC foes this season.

Woodstock North 7, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, the Thunder decided their crosstown matchup with the Blue Streaks in decisive fashion with a clean sweep at home of their KRC rivals.

Anika Treadway and Bethany Lintner led the charge for North with 6-0, 6-0 wins in no. 1 and no. 2 singles, respectively. The Thunder are 2-0 against KRC foes this season.
