High school sports roundup for Saturday, May 15

Huntley took a late lead with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull off a come-from-behind 4-1 win over Naperville Central on Saturday in Naperville.

Brandon Hanley and Brayden Bakes picked up RBIs for the Red Raiders in the win, while Michael Vitellaro earned the win with a perfect 1 1/3 innings on the hill.

McHenry 12, Grayslake North 2: At Grayslake, the Warriors took a five-run lead in the top of the first and never looked back in a six-inning rout.

Lleyton Grubich earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk in four innings. He struck out four, while going 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and a pair of RBIs.

Alden-Hebron 14-8, Schaumburg Christian 4-2 (DH): At Hebron, the Giants picked up a pair of wins in a weekend doubleheader.

Tyler Cunningham earned the win in Game 1, allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks. He struck out seven, while going 1 for 3 at the plate with two runs and an RBI.

Justin Gritmaker was 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs, and Thomas Webber went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs.

Parker Elswick earned the win in Game 2, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and one walk. Webber went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a pair of stolen bases as A-H improved to 6-4 on the season.

Streamwood 10, Dundee-Crown 9: At Carpentersville, a rocky seventh inning undid an impressive comeback effort for the Chargers.

After throwing a scoreless sixth, the wheels came off in the top of the seventh for pitcher Nate Benson. He allowed three earned on four hits in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss in relief. Zach Ryza went 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Jacobs 6, Grant 5: At Fox Lake, the Golden Eagles held on for the win thanks in large part to a three-run fifth inning.

Tyler Ringa led the way with a 3-for-3 day for Jacobs, hitting three doubles, scoring twice and driving in three runs.

Johnsburg 8, Marian Central 2: At Woodstock, Evan Frasch knocked in three runs and three Skyhawks pitchers combined to allow no earned runs in their nonconference victory over the Hurricanes.

Johnsburg (6-9) got three innings each from Joey Hagen and Josh Notriano, then Logan Kordik pitched a scoreless seventh. They combined to allow three hits.

Frasch was 3 for 4 with three RBIs, which all came on a double to left field in the fifth inning. Frasch then scored on Hagen’s single. That four-run inning broke the game open for the Skyhawks.

Joe Wolf and Luke Conroy each had two hits. Notriano, Wolf and Nick Thill each had an RBI.

PREP SOFTBALL

Woodstock North 6, Grayslake North 4: At Grayslake, the Thunder engineered a nice come-from-behind victory after falling behind 4-1 in the second inning.

Madison Beaty went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs in the win. Addison Salazar had two hits and an RBI, and Norah Mungle was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.

Edwardsville 7-0, Huntley 4-1 (DH): At Edwardsville, the Red Raiders started with a loss, but closed with another Bri Bower no-hitter to split a weekend doubleheader.

Clara Hudgins went 2 for 3 with an RBI in the Game 1 loss and Bower added two hits. Bower then struck out 18 over seven hitless innings in the circle to notch her 16th win of the season.

GIRLS SOCCER

Huntley 2, Sycamore 0: At Sycamore, the Red Raiders found the back of the net once in the first half and once again in the second half to pick up a win over the Spartans.

Nova Rothlisberger made six saves in the clean-sheet win for Huntley, while Morgan McCaughn and Ashley Donselaar provided the scoring. Both goals were assisted by Annabel Johnson.

Marist 8, Marian Central 2: At Chicago, the Hurricanes put up two second-half goals in a loss.

Kelsi McThenia scored the first goal, and Sofia Cazares scored the second on an assist from McThenia.

BOYS LACROSSE

Jacobs 26, McHenry 4: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles put together a one-sided win over the Warriors.

Luke Bertone scored eight times, Justin Gretz scored seven goals, Ayden Janchev had six goals, Brady Mollsen scored four and Colin Gretz added one in the rout.

Tanner Polep scored three times for McHenry and Mikey Crites scored once.

WRESTLING

Huntley 51, Lake Zurich 23: At Lake Zurich, the Red Raiders improved to 5-0 on the season with a road victory.

Alessio Pezzella, Jeremy Jakowitsch, Alex Limonciello, Kaden Randazzo and Ryder Hunkins each had wins for Huntley.

Barrington 62, McHenry 12: At Libertyville, the Warriors suffered the loss, dropping their match against Barrington.

Jimmy Norris and Brody Hallin picked up McHenry’s two wins at 106 and 160 pounds, respectively, in the loss.

Libertyville 53, McHenry 21: At Libertyville, McHenry’s second loss came against Libertyville.

Norris and Hallin each notched their second wins of the day, while Pedro Jimenez (132) and Luis Anacleto (285) also won for the Warriors.
