Crystal Lake South defeats Cary-Grove behind Alexis Pupillo’s 2 home runs

Alexis Pupillo homered twice, Brooke Kuffel also went deep and went the distance in the circle, and Crystal Lake South defeated visiting Cary-Grove, 10-1, in Fox Valley Conference softball action Thursday.

Pupillo also doubled, finishing 3 for 3 with four runs scored and four RBIs, while Kuffel (double, two RBIs) and Molly Cook (double) each had a pair of hits. Stephanie Lesniewski contributed a single and two RBIs. Kuffel struck out 13 and allowed five hits and three walks.

Katelyn O’Malley was 3 for 3 for Cary-Grove.

Huntley 6, McHenry 1: At McHenry, Briana Bower struck out 16 and hit a solo homer for the Red Raiders, who remained undefeated in the FVC.

Bower (15-5) allowed only three hits and didn’t walk a batter. Clara Hudgens (double, two RBIs, three stolen bases) and Jori Heard (four stolen bases) both went 3 for 3 for Huntley (16-5, 10-0).

McHenry’s Kiana Johnson was 2 for 2 with a stolen base, and Abby Geis doubled and stole a base.

Woodstock North 15, Alden-Hebron 0: At Woodstock, Mykenzie Selof homered, and the Thunder won the nonconference game in four innings.

Mackenzie Salazar (double), Norah Mungle (triple, 2 for 2) and Madison Wheeler (triple, 2 for 2) also had extra-base hits for Woodstock North. Georgia Sedlack struck out 11 in pitching all four innings.

Jessica Webber had Hebron’s only hit.

Crystal Lake Central 6, Prairie Ridge 4: At Crystal Lake, the host Tigers spotted the Wolves four runs in the top of the first inning of the FVC game but rallied for five runs in the fourth to push ahead for good.

Giada Motto’s solo homer in the third helped get Central’s offense going. Bella Crimaldi, Baylee Snell (double) and Hope McHugh (double, RBI) all finished 2 for 4 for the Tigers. Payton Kramer had a two-RBI double, and Katie Svigelj contributed a triple.

Courtney Schober pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win. Katie Svigelj got the final five outs, allowing only one hit, to earn the save.

Prairie Ridge (5-7, 5-6) received a pair of hits each from Hope McHugh (double, RBI) and Bella Crimaldi (run).

Emily Harlow, (run), Nichole Kiddy (run, RBI) and Carleigh Johnson (run, RBI) also had hits for the Wolves.

Burlington Central 12, Dundee-Crown 2: At Burlington, Anna Sanders and Savannah L’Huillier both went 3 for 4 for the Rockets in their five-inning, FVC win.

L’Huillier and Rylie DuVal both doubled. Duval (two RBIs), Makayla Larson (RBI) and Olivia Martinelli (two RBIs) were all 2 for 3.

Dundee-Crown received two hits apiece from Kailyn Wiebe and Linda Dearing Mendoza.

BASEBALL

Marian Central 7, Alden-Hebron 4: At Alden-Hebron, the Hurricanes earned the nonconference win.

Alden-Hebron (4-4) received 2-for-4 performances from Justin Gritmacher and Tyler Cunningham (two RBIs), both of whom doubled.

Huntley 8, McHenry 0: At Huntley, Adam Guazzo pitched six innings of four-hit ball, striking out six for the hosts in the FVC game.

Tyler Castro and Brandon Hanley were both 2 for 4 with an RBI.

McHenry (10-12, 5-6) got a pair of hits from Ricky Powell and a double from Lleyton Grubich.

Jacobs 3, Hampshire 2: At Hampshire, Matt Smolzer allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out five in 6 1/3 innings as the Golden Eagles earned the FVC win.

Tyler Ringa recorded the final two outs, striking out one, to pick up the save. Jack McMahon (2 for 4, RBI), Anthony Edge (2 for 3) and Kyle Washington (double) paced Jacobs offensively.

For Hampshire, Austin Leonard (2 for 3) and Even Spenk both doubled.

Grayslake Central 14, Johnsburg 4: At Grayslake, the Skyhawks scored twice in the top of the first of the nonconference game, but the Rams scored four runs in each of the first three innings.

Zach Meyers (double, two RBIs) and Jake Metze (triple) had extra-base hits for Johnsburg, and Evan Frasch was 2 for 2.

Prairie Ridge 5, Crystal Lake Central 3: At Crystal Lake, Dylan Bremer tripled and drove in four runs for the host Wolves in the FVC game.

Bremer also pitched the final two innings to save the game for winner Nathan Koteras, who went the first five.

Dundee-Crown 9, Burlington Central 8: At Carpentersville, Trent Minaglia and Jacob Guyon (double) each had a pair of hits for the Chargers in their FVC win.

Ben Hrinowich doubled and knocked in two runs for the Chargers.

BOYS TENNIS

McHenry 5, Crystal Lake South 2: At McHenry, the Warriors won all four doubles matches with Lukas Thomas/Jack Waters (No. 1), Aidan Koleno/Cole Bone (No. 2), Dustin Thielsen/Steven Morrow (No. 3) and Chris Schoder/Finn Hammel (No. 2).

Woodstock 4, Johnsburg 0: At Woodstock, the Blue Streaks received straight-sets wins from Riley Ellegood (No. 1 singles), Brad Arnold/Sam Berry (No. 1 doubles), Matt Keyzer/Jacob Murray (No. 2) and Devon Oliveira (No. 3).

Jacobs 6, Cary-Grove 1: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles remained undefeated in the FVC, winning all three singles matches and Nos. 1-3 in doubles.

Jacobs improved to 6-0 in conference.

WRESTLING

Richmond-Burton 33, Woodstock 21: At Woodstock, the Rockets earned the KRC win.

Woodstock received pins from Max Hodory (138) and Gavin Loiselle (285).

Dundee-Crown 47, Crystal Lake South 30: At Crystal Lake, the Chargers won the FVC match thanks, in part, to four forfeits and pins from Patrick Sierzputowski (126) and Amaire Jones (132).

GIRLS SOCCER

McHenry 4, Crystal Lake South 2: At McHenry, Sarah Duginske scored twice to lead the Warriors to the FVC win.

Sophie Gasmann and Beca D’Agostino also scored for McHenry. Ashley Wachter and Sophie Gasmann had assists, and Emerson Gasmann made two saves in net.

Hampshire 1, Huntley 0: At Hampshire, the Whip-Purs scored in the 57th minute to win the FVC match.

Huntley (3-5-1, 3-5) received seven saves from keeper Nova Rothlisberger.
