High school sports roundup for Saturday, April 10

A goal from Owen Dayton in the 30th minute was enough to seal the deal for Crystal Lake Central in a 1-0 Fox Valley Conference win over the McHenry in Crystal Lake on Saturday.

Dayton’s goal was assisted by Elijah Burleson, while Joey Moore made nine saves in the shutout. The victory marked the first of the year for CLC in their last regular season game, moving its record to 1-7-1 both overall and in FVC play.

Huntley 2, Burlington Central 1: At Huntley, the Red Raiders rallied back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to pick up a home win over the Rockets.

Kyle Spenger put Burlington Central ahead in the 27th minute on an assist from Cooper Teets, but Huntley answered back in the 60th and 71st minutes to secure the comeback win.

Jacobs 4, Crystal Lake South 1: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles notched a comfortable FVC win at home over the Gators.

Liam Armstrong contributed two goals and one assist for Jacobs in the victory as the team secured first place in the FVC with a perfect 9-0 record in conference play.

CLS dropped to 6-3-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the FVC with the loss.

Cary-Grove 1, Prairie Ridge 1: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves and Trojans played to a one-all draw in an FVC matchup.

Cade Collins scored for the Wolves on an assist from Jake Pinkerton.

Marian Central 4, Marian Catholic 1: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes picked up four late goals after a scoreless first half to take down Marian Catholic.

Christopher Ghita scored twice, while Alex Trojanowski and Nate Iafigliola added one goal each for Marian Central in the win.

Woodstock 1, Dixon 0: At Dixon, an early goal from Josh Dix preserved the Blue Streaks’ unbeaten record in a rain-soaked road win over Dixon.

The win improved the Streaks to 9-0-2 overall and 8-0 in the Kishwaukee River Conference.

Junior College Baseball

McHenry County College 4-16, Carl Sandburg 3-6: At Crystal Lake, Evan Geske and Ben Peltz, hitting Nos. 8 and 9 in the order, combined for eight RBIs in the second game as the Scots made it a sweep.

Geske was 3 for 4 with a double and five RBIs. Peltz was 3 for 4 and knocked in three runs as MCC (18-4) won for the 11th time in its last 12 games.

The Scots got strong pitching in the opener as Ben Belgrave struck out four in five innings to get the win. Sam Pederson struck out two in one inning of relief and Aidan Stark struck out one in the seventh for the save.

MCC scored three times in the bottom of the fourth with help from one Sandburg error. Miller Wallac and Noah Wenger both singled, then Nick Finley bunted and reached first on a throwing error. Wallace and Wenger both scored on the play, and Finley wound up on third base.

Colin Kalinowski then scored Finley with a sacrifice fly.

The Scots banged out 15 hits in the second game to finish in five innings. Jack Hines, who was 2 for 3 in both games, drove in two runs. Wenger also was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Dymitri Kanellakis was 2 for 4 and scored twice.
