Warning sirens have sounded in parts of McHenry County amid reports of rotating clouds and other storm-related woes.
Marengo police posted on Facebook Thursday evening that a funnel cloud was reported heading toward town but had moved on to the north and east toward Union and Woodstock.
A tornado warning was also issued for the northeastern portion of the county, expiring at 8:15 p.m.
Sections of Route 120 and Bull Valley Road in the McHenry area were also reported to be shut down late Thursday because of roadway obstructions. Wonder Lake Fire Chief Matt Yegge said electrical wires were down on Route 120.
And as of about 8:30 p.m., about 1,200 customers were reported by ComEd to be without power.
Additionally, a flood advisory was also issued for McHenry County.
“Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due tothunderstorms. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.- Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding,” the National Weather Service reported, citing expected flooding in towns including Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills, McHenry, Woodstock, Huntley, Fox Lake, Harvard, Island Lake, Marengo, Johnsburg, Lakemoor, Spring Grove, Wonder Lake, Lakewood, Pistakee Highlands and Prairie Grove.
