Crash shuts down Route 47 near Woodstock; man taken to hospital with injuries

A man was taken to Northwestern Hospital Huntley with minor injuries after a crash during the evening rush Wednesday closed Route 47 near Route 176 near Woodstock.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded about 4 p.m. to the scene at Route 47 just south of Lucas Road, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said. The area is south of Woodstock and northwest of Crystal Lake.

When paramedics arrived, they saw that a large box truck had gone off the road and into a row of trees. A driver and passenger had freed themselves before first responders arrived. The passenger was taken to the hospital, while the driver declined medical attention, Vucha said. The truck was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Route 47 was closed in both directions after the crash, according to the Sheriff’s Office, but the road reopened at 6 p.m.

The truck remained upright in the crash. It was not carrying hazardous materials, and the sheriff’s office is investigating the crash, Vucha said.
