Storms expected Thursday, some could be severe, across northern Illinois

Winds could exceed 60 mph

The forecast for Northern Illinois on Thursday calls for thunderstoms later in the day, with conditions becoming more severe in some counties

Thunderstorms are expected to move across northern Illinois on Thursday afternoon.

The storms will be rapidly developing and pushing southeastward across the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Some of the storms will likely be severe with damaging hail locally over 2 inches in diameter with isolated damaging wind gusts over 60 mph, the NWS said.

The highest severe threat looks to be near and south of Interstate 80.
