River City Waste Services in La Salle sold to Republic

Transaction was effective Monday

The trash cans being emptied into Republic Services garbage trucks are getting heavier these days. Republic says our area's residential waste stream has increased 40% since the pandemic began.

River City Waste Services LLC of La Salle recently decided to sell its company to Republic Services.

The family-owned company River City made the announcement Monday.

“This decision was not made lightly, as the relationships we have developed over the years are deep-rooted and meaningful,” said River City owner Shawn McDowell in an announcement.

Republic took over operations Monday. Customers may see either a River City truck or a Republic Services truck collecting recycling/waste items and containers still will appear the same, but customers should not the change in payment location on future invoices.

“Republic Services operates with the same passion for the customer and service values as River City Waste Services, LLC,” McDowell said. “We expect this transition to be seamless for all customers, as Republic Services will continue to offer the same professional services you have experienced in the past.”

River City Waste Services was founded in February 2019 by McDowell, a second-generation sanitation engineer. McDowell co-founded Complete Sanitation in 2006, a family-owned residential and commercial waste business located in Plano. In 2015, Shawn, his father, and business partner Tom Klatt sold the company to Groot Industries.
