La Salle-Peru senior Peyton Heagy won a pair of events Saturday at the IHSA United Township Swimming Sectional to qualify for the state meet.
Heagy won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.88 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 52.3 seconds. Along with winning both events, she beat the state-qualifying standards in both.
“It feels amazing to qualify for state again this year and know that the last 14 or so weeks of hard work paid off,” Heagy said. “Last year, I was kind of disappointed that I got out touched in the 100 free, so it feels awesome not only winning both events, but swimming under the state-qualifying times.”
Heagy advances to the state meet at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont. Preliminaries are on Friday with finals on Saturday.
Also Saturday, Heagy teamed with Clara Guglielmetti, Paige Marks and Evvie Jeppson to place fifth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.36.
The L-P co-op placed sixth among the 13 teams with 98 points.
