Rail crossing improvements approved near Troy Grove

New Automatic warning device will be installed on County Highway 19

The Times received a complaint regarding the rail crossing on Boyce Memorial Drive in Ottawa. The rail appears is raised causing a jarring crossing for vehicles. The Times reached out to CSX Transportation for more information Wednesday and received no comment prior to publication. The paper will publish more information once it's received.

The Illinois Commerce Commission granted approval of a $227,937 agreement to install a new automatic warning device on County Highway 19 near Troy Grove.

The agreement requires Union Pacific Railroad to install automatic flashing light signals and gates with a bell controlled by constant warning time circuitry, equipped with an event recorder and remote monitor at the crossing.

The Grade Crossing Protection Fund will reimburse up to 95% of the installation costs, not exceeding $216,540. All remaining installation and future operation and maintenance costs will be covered by Union Pacific.
