13th annual Freezin’ for a Reezin’ a go for Friday morning

Drive-thru cash drop off at radio station, non-perishable drive at Handy Foods

Freezin’ for a Reezin’ returns Friday, Dec. 3, with its annual live radio-a-thon and cash donation drop off at 1430 WCMY studios in Ottawa.

Members of the community also can drop off donated non-perishable items in the parking lot at Handy Foods, 604 W. Main St.

“The 2020 event was our most successful to date raising over $100,000 in monetary donations” said WCMY’s morning host and event coordinator Maggie Frost. “This year we wanted to again give the community the convenience of a drive-thru drop off as well as collect donated items.”

Live entertainment and interviews will air on WCMY 1430 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and local celebrity cash collectors will be in front of the studio at 216 W. Lafayette St. until 4 p.m. Donations can also be made online at ottawafoodbasket.org.

Freezin’ for a Reezin’ has collected more than 417,000 pounds of food and $478,000 in donations since it began in 2009. This year’s drive is hosted by 1430 WCMY, Handy Foods, Stevenson Transfer and the city of Ottawa.
