The circus is coming to town.
The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus is scheduled to have performances at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the Leland School grounds at 300 N. Main St.
The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus is in its 36th edition and has been featured on National Geographic’s Explorer TV series, Entertainment Tonight and on A&E’s “Under the Big Top.”
The performances are 90 minutes and feature a trapeze artist, prancing ponies, unicycles, among other acts.
Prices for advance tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for seniors (65 and older) and children (2 to 12). Children younger than 2 receive free entrance. Advanced tickets can be purchased online 10 days before the show at cmcircus.com until 10 p.m. the day before the show. On show day, tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for seniors and children.
Tickets may also be purchased at First State Insurance in Earlville, Casey’s General Store in Leland and Bud’s Citgo in Somonauk.
On circus day, patrons can watch the big top get erected between 9:30 and 10 a.m. There also is a free tour of the circus ground, which provides an opportunity for community members to meet circus organizers and performers.
