U.S. 52 rail crossing in Serena will close June 14

Work expected to take about 7 days

The Times received a complaint regarding the rail crossing on Boyce Memorial Drive in Ottawa. The rail appears is raised causing a jarring crossing for vehicles. The Times reached out to CSX Transportation for more information Wednesday and received no comment prior to publication. The paper will publish more information once it's received.

The U.S. 52-Illinois Railway grade crossing in Serena will be closed Monday, June 14 for about seven days to allow the Illinois Railway to rebuild its crossing.

U.S. 52 traffic will proceed as follows: eastbound traffic will proceed south on Route 23 to Interstate 80, then east on Interstate 80 to Route 71, north on Route 71 back to U.S. 52. Westbound traffic will proceed south on Route 71 to Interstate 80, then west on Interstate 80 to Route 23, then north on Route 23 back to U.S. 52.

Motorists are urged to use caution and expect some delays while traveling the detour route.
