Starved Rock, Matthiessen state parks closed

Parks reach capacity on holiday weekend

Starved Rock State Park and Matthiessen state parks reached capacity and closed shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Visitors are encouraged to visit other sites in the area such as Buffalo Rock, Illini, and the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail.

There is no parking allowed along routes 71 and 178 and cars will be ticketed and towed.

Parking on Routes 178 or 71 near the Starved Rock or Matthiessen state parks entrances is prohibited. Illinois State Police will have patrols at the parks. (Provided)
