The La Salle County Health Department is opening COVID-19 vaccine appointments for children ages 12 and older.
Saturday, May 15, will be the first day appointments for the Pfizer vaccine will be available and more appointments will be available every Saturday for the rest of May at the LaSalle County Health Department, 717 Etna Road, Ottawa.
The health department also is working with high schools to host vaccination clinics this summer. High schools include Wednesday, June 16, at Streator High School; Wednesday, June 23, at Mendota High School; Wednesday, June 30 at La Salle-Peru High School; and Wednesday, July 7, at Ottawa High School.
If additional appointment space is available, other community residents that are still in need of a vaccination will be able to attend. The health department encourages parents and students at nearby feeder schools to take advantage of this opportunity in their communities.
Those younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and appointments are available only for those receiving their first dose. Second dose appointments will be available after receiving the first dose.
