Ottawa residents needed to fill out survey, attend meeting for housing grant

Grant targets a specific neighborhood in Ottawa

A map outlines the area the city of Ottawa will apply for grant funding for housing rehabilitation.

The city of Ottawa is working with North Central Illinois Council of Governments on applying for a Housing Rehabilitation Community Development Block Grant and residents within the designated neighborhood are being asked to take a survey that could open up possible funds to them.

This grant targets housing projects, which preserve single-family, owner-occupied housing and encourage neighborhood revitalization.

The funds would address housing needs of eligible low-to-moderate income households. Eligible uses of funds range from structural work to electrical, plumbing, new appliances, flooring, ADA and accessibility accommodations, among others.

Grants provide residents with safe and sanitary living conditions and help to stabilize neighborhoods and affordable housing in the community.

For the grant, the city of Ottawa must target a specific area. The targeted project area is bounded by Columbus Street on the west, railroad tracts to the north and Fox River along the southeast.

Participation is needed from homeowners located within the target area.

Homeowners can print the survey on the city of Ottawa’s website at cityofottawa.org and complete all requested information. Surveys will be held in confidence in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974.

On the first page if respondent wishes they do not need to complete the “minority benefit determination.” Check “I choose to not respond.

Surveys also are available in City Hall, 301 W. Madison St.

Additinally, a public hearing will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 15. This will be at the beginning of the City Council meeting. It is critical to the grant application that a minimum of 10 residents within the project area attend this meeting.
