Ottawa police have identified a suspect in the Aug. 29 shooting (there were no injuries) outside a rural Ottawa business and seek the public’s help in locating him.
A warrant has been issued for 34-year-old Jonathan C. Caffey charging him with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm. The charge is a Class 1 felony carrying 4-15 years in prison. Bond has been fixed at $100,000.
In a Friday press release, Ottawa police said they are enlisting the public’s help in finding Caffey, who has ties to La Salle, Spring Valley, Naperville and the Chicago area.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Detective Sgt. Kyle Booras at the Ottawa Police Department, 815-433-2131.
Ottawa police said officers were dispatched at 2:05 a.m. Aug. 29 to an unspecified business at 3042 Route 71, Ottawa. In the vicinity are a strip club and adult goods store located near the junction of Route 71 and Interstate 80.
Ottawa police determined “multiple gunshots” were fired at a vehicle leaving the establishment. The vehicle crashed into a field across the road. Inside were two occupants, who were not injured by gunfire.
“The incident is believed to be isolated in nature and there is no known threat to the public,” police said in the Friday release.
