The La Salle County Coroner’s Office has been called to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 6 near the auto salvage yard and St. Bede Academy, just outside of Peru.

Authorities said one person is dead and two others are injured. The Peru Police Department also reports U.S. 6 in the area between Peru and Spring Valley may be closed for several hours as an investigation into the crash takes place.

Peru EMS was called to the scene shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday. A medical helicopter landed on the highway as both lanes of traffic were halted. The helicopter left without a patient, authorities said.

Motorists should avoid the area and utilize alternative routes.
