The fourth-seeded Somonauk girls basketball team earned a 37-26 victory over No. 5 seed and host Indian Creek in the opening round of the Little Ten Conference Tournament at Shabbona. The Lady Bobcats were led by seven points each from Lauren Brummel [12 rebounds, three assists, three blocks] and Amber Duffield, with Audrey Weismiller adding six points and Emily Paull four steals.

Also at the LTC tourney, No. 3-seeded Serena hit 47% from the floor and clapped down on the defensive end to advance with a 60-16 triumph over Earlville-Leland. The Lady Huskers were paced by Joselyn Castelli [game-high 17 points and seven rebounds], Megan Gunier [10 points, four rebounds], and Jeri Brennan [eight points, four rebounds]. The Lady Red Raiders were led by Karah Borton [four points] and Morgan Musich [seven rebounds, three blocks, two assists].

The top-seeded Marquette girls hoops team improved to 20-2 on the season and secured the program’s 10th consecutive 20-win season with a 35-28 victory over Midland in the semifinals of the Tri-County Conference Tournament. Jessica Jessen led the Lady Crusaders with 11 points with Cordy Murphy adding 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Streator boys basketball squad hit 55% from the field in picking up a 73-69 North Central Illinois Conference win at Geneseo. Cory Rogers led the Bulldogs with 17 points, while Dan Creamean and Troy Galyen added 16 points apiece, and Dave Nawara 10 points.

The Woodland boys hoops club used a 13-5 third-quarter advantage in earning its fifth-straight victory in a 53-43 triumph over visiting Dee-Mack. Chuck Cipalo led the Warriors with 22 points and six rebounds with teammate Kurt Kochis adding 11 points.

The Streator boys hoops squad slipped past visiting Marseilles 68-67 in overtime. Randy Moore led the Bulldogs with 17 points, while Loney Augustine had 16 points — including a pair of key baskets in the extra session — and Gail Erschen 11 points. The Panthers were paced by a game-high 27 points from Bill Griglione and 17 points from Terry Leigh.
