The host Woodland Warriors used 17 points from Connor Dodge and 10 from Phoenix Cooper to defeat Ridgeview, 44-42, at the Rt. 17 Thanksgiving Tournament games held at Woodland High School Tuesday.
Also at the tournament, Flanagan-Cornell topped St. Bede, 51-37, behind 19 points from JD Ruddy and 11 from Sam Jones. Paul Hart led the Bruins with 16 points.
Newark 56, Reed-Custer 39: At the Seneca Thanksgiving Turkey Tournament, the Norsemen sank 11 3-pointers and 10 2-pointers in opening their season with a win. NHS led 12-9 after one quarter, 31-18 at halftime and 46-29 at the end of three periods.
Brandon Mitchell led Newark (1-0) with 19 points, including a trio of 3s. Austin Tollefson added 15 points, with four triples, and Tegan Kruser and Zach Carlson posted eight points apiece.
Newark plays host Seneca at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In the late game Tuesday, Herscher defeated St. Anne, 46-45.
Morris 57, Serena 36: At Serena, the Huskers fell behind 20-10 after one quarter and never caught up. Hunter Muffler led the locals with 13 points, while Cam Figgins added 12 points.
Momence 56, Earlville 38: At Earlville, the Red Raiders fell to 0-2 this season, despite Bryar Keller’s 15 points and 14 from Ryan Browder.
Dixon 42, Ottawa 26: At Kingman Gym, Ottawa was held scoreless for the entirety of both the first and second quarters Tuesday night in the second round of its own Dean Riley “Shootin’ the Rock” Tournament. Ottawa in the first half was 0 for 15 from the field, 0 for 2 from the free-throw line and committed 19 turnovers.
“We just looked uncomfortable, sped up, turned the ball over too much, missed some shots. It just all kind of snowballed, and the stress of the situation mounted,” Ottawa coach Mark Cooper said. “It was not a good half for us.”
Javarius Whitfield finally scored Ottawa’s first points 1 minute, 28 seconds into the third quarter with a pair of free-throw swishes and finished with four points and six rebounds, with the Pirates also led by Anthony Miller’s 11-point, three-steal effort and nine points from Luke Cushing.
Jacob Gaither tallied 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocked shots for the Dukes (1-1).
The Pirates will be back in action at 7 p.m. Friday against Oak Forest (2-0).

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Marquette 55, Mendota 11: At Mendota, Lilly Craig posted 16 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds to lead the Crusaders to the win.
Eva McCallum contributed 11 points and five rebounds, Josie Eager eight points, eight assists and three steals and Avery Durdan nine points and eight boards in the victory.
Fieldcrest 57, Roanoke-Benson 35: At Minonk, the Knights shot poorly in the first half and trailed by one at the break, but outscored the Rockets 23-4 in the third to move to 6-0 on the season.
Ashlyn May turned in 18 points and eight assists to lead FHS, while Haley Carver added 13 points and Ella Goodrich 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Serena 47, Amboy 39: At Amboy, the Huskers moved to 4-1 this season behind 17 points, eight assists, five steals and three rebounds from Katie Baker. Also in the win, Makayla McNally chipped in nine points and four boards and Paisley Twait eight points and four rebounds.
St. Bede 46, Flanagan-Cornell/Woodland 27: At Spring Valley, Leah Smudzinski popped in 17 points and Lia Bosnich had 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Bedans.
Putnam County 35, Somonauk 29: At Somonauk, the Panthers jumped on top 14-3 after one period and held on for the win. Maggie Roberts had nine points, six rebounds, five blocks and three steals for the Bobcats, Josie Rader and Haley McCoy each added nine points.
WRESTLING
Tremont 53, Seneca 20; Princeton 46, Seneca 20: At Prouty Gym in Princeton, the Fighting Irish fell twice. Capturing wins against Tremont were Robbie Nelson at 132 (5:31), Nate Othon at 138 (4:47), Asher Hamby at 145 (4-2) and Chris Peura at 195 (:45).
Against the Tigers, Seneca winners in contested matches were Justin Goslin at 126 (3:44) and Othon at 138 (3:00).
BOYS BOWLING
Sycamore 3,449, Ottawa 2,952: At Sycamore, Colin Sheridan rolled a 221 high game and 572 series, while Nelson Brandt added a 224 game and 570 series for the Pirates in the loss.
SOPHOMORE/JV BOWLING
Ottawa 2,368, Sycamore 1,313: The Corsairs were a winner behind Eva Spencer’s 171 game and 444 series. Adolfo Bustamante chipped in a 191 game and 441 series.
SOPHOMORE/JV BOYS BASKETBALL
Marquette 51, DePue 23: At Bader Gym in Ottawa, the Crusaders (1-0) jumped out to a 20-9 first-quarter lead to take control. Charlie Mullen netted 12 of his game-high 20 points in that opening period. Pete McGrath added 11 points for MA.
For DePue, Francisco Moreno led the way with 10 points.
