Serena 2, DePue-Hall 1: In the Class 1A Serena Regional semifinal Thursday, it looked as if extra time would be needed to decide a winner. However, a Huskers clear from their defensive third found a streaking Carson Baker with a step on his defender on the left wing. Baker then sent a crossing pass to the center of the field at the top of the box, and Tanner Faivre beat Little Giants keeper Juan Raya to the ball.
Faivre chipped the ball over a sliding Raya and tapped it into an open net with 53.5 seconds remaining to score what proved to be the game-winning tally in a 2-1 victory.
Serena advanced to take on top-seeded Mendota in the Friday championship.
