Ottawa High School pitching ace Abby Bukantis on Friday was named the Interstate Eight Conference’s most valuable player for the 2021 softball season.
Also named to the all-conference softball first squad from Ottawa were Abi Claus and Ryleigh Stehl, with Lauren Carlson and Cassie Turk getting honorable mention honors.
Tabbed to the team from Sandwich High School were Grace Donahue, Alyssa Cassie and Grace Stevenson. Morgan Kee and Alexis Sexton were honorable mention selections.
The Interstate Eight baseball first team this year includes Luke Cushing, Anthony Cooper, Evan Evola and Jake Serby. Honorable mention honors went to Jace Addis.
Sandwich honorees were first team Sam Palumbo and honorable mention Andy Golinski.
In soccer, Ottawa’s Gabi Krueger was selected for the I-8 first team, while Ryley Jett, Rylee Duncan and Lexi Sema were honorable mention selections.
Ottawa’s Medrow wins 2, loses 2 in IWCOA state
Ottawa sophomore Charles Medrow split his four 182-pound matches Friday at the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Class 2A state finals at the BOS Center in Springfield.
Medrow lost to Lake Forest’s Truman Thuente, 11-1, in his opening bout. Then in wrestlebacks, he earned an 8-6 sudden victory win over Steve Orsolini of Glenbard South and a pin at 2:32 over Mattoon’s Kyus Root. Finally, he fell by 22-7 tech fall to Mahomet-Seymour’s Brennan Houser.
Medrow finishes the season with a 17-17 record.
