In a matchup of two of the Little Ten Conference’s toughest teams behind defending league and state champion Newark, the Somonauk Bobcats bested the visiting Huskers of Serena for a 25-18, 25-13 triumph Thursday evening.
“There were several great, long rallies on both sides,” said Somonauk coach Aleesha Carlson.
Sydney Johnson’s 14-point service run was a backbreaker, with Johnson tallying seven aces, nine assists and nine digs on the night. Katelynn Tripp (four kills, seven digs), Karlee McBride (six kills, two blocks), Aubrey Westbrook (13 digs) and Maggie Roberts (three kills, three blocks) also led Somonauk (5-6 overall, 5-3 LTC).
Earlville def. Leland 25-13, 25-20: Also in Little Ten play, the Red Raiders (10-3, 7-1) rolled in two sets paced by Mady Olson’s eight kills, five kills from Brynn Guelde, Hailey Kuter’s six digs, and 11 assists and three aces courtesy of Emma Benson.
Newark def. Hiawatha 25-6, 25-9: At Newark, the host Norsemen (11-2, 7-0) powered to the Little Ten triumph paced by Taylor Christian’s 21 assists, Lindsey Hatteberg’s six aces, and Kellie Snyder’s six kills.
Roanoke-Benson def. Marquette: At Roanoke, the visiting Crusaders were defeated in Tri-County Conference play in two sets.
Lindsey Kaufmann (15 digs, four kills), Addie McConnaughhay (seven kills, eight digs), Evelyn Biggins (five kills), and Kaylee Killelea (20 assists) spearheaded the Crusaders attack.
Fieldcrest def. Ridgeview 25-14, 25-13: At Minonk, the Knights (9-3 overall, 7-3 HOIC) took care of the visiting Mustangs behind Bella Fortner’s 15 assists, Carolyn Megow’s six digs, Gracie Schultz’s two aces and two blocks, and Allie Wiesenhofer’s nine kills.
Morris def. Sandwich 25-18, 25-15: At Sandwich, the host Indians (4-4 in the I-8) were led by Cailyn Brummel (four assists, three kills), Claire Allen (four kills), and Lexi Young (five digs).

Ottawa 3, Serena 1: At Ottawa, the host Pirates scored the senior-night victory over the Huskers.
Somonauk 6, DePue-Hall 1: On Wednesday, the visiting Bobcats got three goals from Lance Grandgeorge, two from Carter Andrews, and another from Gio Leon in the win. Payton Wyant, Luke Rader, Cade Jutila and Carter Andrews all had assists, with keeper Coleton Eade notching 11 saves.
