“The state sits at a crossroad with several challenges still ahead.”

State Sen. Sue Rezin, R-Morris, has been chosen to serve on leader-designate Dan McConchie’s, R-Hawthorn Woods, Senate Republican leadership team as deputy leader.

“I am both honored and grateful to be given this new role within the Illinois State Senate Republican Caucus,” Rezin said in a news release. “The state sits at a crossroad with several challenges still ahead. I believe that this leadership team is best positioned to face those challenges. I look forward to being a part of this team and helping to restore Illinois.”

Rezin, who has served in the Illinois Senate since 2010, previously served in leadership as assistant Republican leader.

“Sen. Rezin has spent the last decade breaking barriers and bringing more people – especially women – into the legislative process,” McConchie said. “She is committed to structural change and has the experience, tenacity and work ethic to see it through. Sue is the perfect choice for deputy leader to spearhead our engagement efforts and help make the Senate GOP a more inclusive, inventive and effective caucus.”

The appointment will take effect at the start of the 102nd General Assembly, which is scheduled to begin Wednesday.
