Glen Ellyn parent webinar in Spanish to address anxiety in students

"On Oct. 24, we became aware of graffiti in bathrooms that was a cause for concern and specified a date: Oct. 30," Glenbard Township High School District 87 spokeswoman Peg Mannion said in an email. "Glenbard South immediately notified the DuPage Sheriff’s office to maintain the safety of students, ascertain the identity of the person responsible and assess the credibility of the threat."

GLEN ELLYN – The Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee and Glenbard Parent Series – Programs in Spanish will present “Practical Parent Tools for Challenging Times” at 7 p.m.Dec. 16 via Zoom.

Teens worry about homework, grades, friends and family obligations. These concerns, in addition to fears about safety, stability and the unknown, have resulted in even greater levels of anxiety and depression among adolescents, a news release stated.

Guest speaker Ferney Ramirez will help webinar participants learn how to address hopelessness, irritability, poor school performance and lack of motivation. He also will discuss the role emotional intelligence plays in a child’s lifelong success. Ramirez will offer guidance on how to respond to behaviors adults might not understand. He will discuss compassionate strategies for caregivers to foster the skills essential for every teen to lead a more fulfilling life.

Ramirez coordinates programs for families in Chicago and various Illinois school districts and is the author of 10 mental health publications. He is president of the Family First Organization and has extensive experience in clinical psychology, couples therapy and family counseling.
