ELMHURST - State Rep. Deanne Mazzochi, R-Elmhurst, in partnership with the Rx Alone Leadership Initiative ofIllinois [RALI], will host an online discussion educating the community on substance abuse at 5 p.m. Feb. 24.
“The economic shutdown and social isolation of COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on mental health and the opioid crisis in our community that we need to acknowledge,” Mazzochi said in a statement.
In 2020, DuPage County saw a record number of opioid deaths, especially in the first half of the year.
RALI is a nonprofit organization focused on raising awareness of the warning signs of opioid misuse and providing tools to enable the safe disposal of unused prescription medicines.
Mazzochi will be joined by a counselor from RALI partner Trinity Services, which offers counseling and psychotherapy for people dealing with mental health and substance use disorders, the Pledge for LifePartnership, which focuses on safe storage and disposal of prescription medicines, and the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association. Together they will discuss important steps to help prevent addiction and signs to look out for.
