DuPage County reports fewest COVID-19 cases in a month with 143 new infections Sunday

The DuPage County Health Department on Sunday reported 143 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 5 deaths: 1 man in his 20s, 2 women in their 70s, 1 man in his 80s and 1 woman in her 90s.

It was the fewest single-day cases reported since Dec. 18.

The county now has seen a total of 65,391 coronavirus cases including 1,057 deaths, according to the health department. The recovery rate among DuPage County cases as of Jan. 12 was 98.0%.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 9%. Currently, 19% of medical/surgical beds are available and 26% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and one day under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability. The region will need to have three consecutive days over the 20% threshold for both ICU and medical/surgical beds to move to Tier 2.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 10.2%, and DuPage County is at 8.5%.

Hospitalizations have decreased 8 out of the past 10 days in this region.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,162 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 29 additional deaths Sunday, and a total of 487,040 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate decreased from 6.3% to 6.1%.

By town, Wheaton has had 3,486 total cases, Glen Ellyn 2,460, Lombard 3,399, Villa Park 2,032, Hinsdale 1,031, Westmont 1,654, Darien 1,331, Woodridge 2,057, Downers Grove 3,069, Elmhurst 3,372, Warrenville 1,045 and Winfield 836. Addison has had 4,055 confirmed cases, Naperville 5,522, Carol Stream 3,561 and West Chicago 3,606.
