DuPage County COVID-19 cases continue to rise with 617 infections reported Friday, 4 deaths

The DuPage County Health Department on Friday reported 617 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 4 deaths: 1 woman in her 70s, 1 woman in her 80s and 2 women in their 90s.

It was the most COVID-19 cases reported since Dec. 14.

The county now has seen a total of 62,645 coronavirus cases including 1,016 deaths, according to the health department. The recovery rate among DuPage County cases as of Jan. 5 was 98.0%.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 10.5%. Currently, 13.3% of medical/surgical beds are available and 21.4% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and three consecutive days under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 12.4%, and DuPage County is at 9.6%.

Finally, within the DuPage/Kane region, there are 70 available, staffed ICU beds out of 328 total and 363 ventilators available out of 581.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 9,277 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 126 additional deaths Friday.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate stayed flat at 8.5%.

By town, Wheaton has had 3,332 total cases, Glen Ellyn 2,358, Lombard 3,235, Villa Park 1,942, Hinsdale 977, Westmont 1,586, Darien 1,275, Woodridge 1,968, Downers Grove 2,909, Elmhurst 3,248, Warrenville 1,009 and Winfield 818. Addison has had 3,905 confirmed cases, Naperville 5,296, Carol Stream 3,428 and West Chicago 3,486.
