MORRIS – Mayor Chris Brown recognized the Morris Chiefs Football Association during Monday night’s City Council meeting.

The Morris Chiefs lightweight football team brought home the championship trophy and the superlight team was runner-up in its division.

Brown read a proclamation congratulating both teams, saying “your team embodies the winning spirit of our city and we are proud of your sportsmanship.”
In other council news:
• Brown announced a that public hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, in the City Council chambers to discuss the Downtowns and Main Streets Capital Grants Program.
• The council approved the renewal of the City’s Workers Compensation insurance for the 2022-23 year at a cost of $169,549.
• The council approved an ordinance approving change order No. 2 for the 2020 Street Maintenance Project for a decrease in cost of $12,865.90
The council adjourned until 7 p.m. Jan. 3.
