Lake County Retired Teachers offer scholarships

Deadline to apply for 2 scholarships to pursue career in education is March 25

The Lake County Retired Teachers Association announced it is giving out more than $3,000 in scholarships this year.

Two scholarships will be awarded to students planning to pursue a career in education. A $2,000 scholarship in honor of Mary Abbott and a $1,500 scholarship will be given to two high school seniors, payable at the completion of their first semesters of college.

Lake County high school seniors who have demonstrated achievement and contributed to the community may apply. Applications must be received by Friday, March 25, and include two letters of recommendation: one from a high school faculty member and the other from an adult who is not a relative but is familiar with the applicant’s participation in the community. Applicants must write an essay on “Why I Want a Career in Education” and submit a list of school and community activities, as well as their high school transcript.

Applications should be mailed to Connie Reidel, 342 Heather Ave., Grayslake, IL 60030 or emailed to win65del@comcast.net. Phone: 847-223-8208.

Scholarship winners will be notified by May 2.

The Lake County Retired Teachers Association has been giving scholarships to students for many years. Scholarships largely have been funded by 50/50 drawings at monthly meetings.
