Round Lake man drowns while boating

Authorities: Man jumped off boat for swim in Round Lake Beach, did not resurface

ROUND LAKE BEACH -- A 26-year-old Round Lake man apparently drowned when he jumped from a boat in Round Lake Beach and did not resurface, authorities said.

On Aug. 1, the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded to the 900 block of North Lake Shore Drive in Round Lake Beach for a report of a person who jumped from a boat to swim and did not resurface, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Paramedics arrived and transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

The man has been identified as Luis Fernando Vazquez-Velazquez, 26, of Round Lake, according to the release. Preliminary results from an autopsy performed Aug. 2 found that his death was consistent with drowning. Toxicology results are pending.

The death investigation is continuing by the Lake County Coroner’s Office and the Round Lake Beach Police Department.
