Contactless virtual plant sale planned at College of Lake County

Proceeds to help horticulture student scholarships, internships and program

GRAYSLAKE – The horticulture department at the College of Lake County is having its annual plant sale fundraiser virtually this year.

The event runs through May 3.

Buy plants online at www.clchorticultureplantsale.com. Proceeds help support CLC horticulture student scholarships, internships and program enhancements.

“Community members look forward to this sale every spring,” horticulture department chairman Rory Klick said in a news release. “Gardeners are always excited to get started planting, and we’re very happy to offer the sale virtually this year. Our students in horticulture production and sustainable agriculture have helped grow a wide range of annuals, perennials, fruits, vegetables, herbs and houseplants as part of their hands-on coursework and gain real world experience as growers.”

All plants are grown by CLC students and staff. Sowing seeds and propagating plants to prepare for the sale began in the fall and ramped up from February through April to get crops ready for sale. Those buying plants may choose from herbs, annuals, perennials and hanging baskets of flowers, as well as vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, tomatoes and squash. Native perennials also are available.

You must choose a curbside date and time to pick up plants, which will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 6 through 14 at the horticulture greenhouse (Building H near the Brae Loch Road entrance to the Grayslake campus). On your chosen pickup day and time, pull up the drive on the side of the greenhouse at the four-way stop on Lancer Lane between Brae Loch Road and Washington Street. Your order will be brought to you and loaded into your vehicle.
