Man, 24, charged in hit-and-run case in Wauconda

WAUCONDA -- A Wauconda man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that police asked for the community’s help in identifying the offender.

On Jan. 21, the Wauconda Police Department charged Randall A. Grover, 24, of Wauconda, in conjunction with a hit-and-run crash that occurred Jan. 9.

Grover was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving too fast for conditions, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to reduce speed and improper lane use.

About 5 a.m. Jan. 9, a black vehicle believed to be a Hyundai Veloster was traveling north on Barrington Road near Main Street when it left the roadway and collided into three vehicles parked at 221 S. Main St.

The offending vehicle left the scene, almost striking a box truck head on in the wrong lanes, before continuing eastbound on Route 176 toward Fairfield Road. The offending vehicle had heavy damage to the front end and rear driver’s-side quarter panel. There was also airbag deployment.

The police department would like to thank the community as well as the media for working with them to identify the offender in this incident. Solving this case would not have happened as quickly without the involvement of the community and the media.
