WAUKEGAN – Police continue to investigate a March 24 shooting that left a Gurnee man dead from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
About 4:40 p.m. March 24, officers from the Waukegan Police Department’s patrol division were dispatched to the 2700 block of Washington Street for a call of shots fired, a news release stated.
Officers found a male victim with gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Waukegan Fire Department arrived on scene and took the man to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. At 5:05 p.m., the Lake County Coroner’s Office was advised of the incident and responded to the scene, as well as the hospital.
The deceased, 24-year-old Daviontae Sims-Friar of Gurnee, died at Vista East Medical Center.
On March 25, an autopsy was performed. Preliminary results indicate that Sims-Friar died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation is ongoing by the Lake County Coroner’s Office, and the incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department and the Waukegan Police Major Crime Scene Unit.
