To the Editor:
I was not surprised to see the headline “Sheriff says deputies are more fearful of getting shot than coronavirus” in the Nov. 25 Ledger.
I believe the level of fear has been raised in all of us, including the police, as we see the proliferation of more and more guns. And I find it interesting that gun rights advocates are displaying “Support our police” signs/flags.
Are we really supporting the police when we encourage everyone to carry a gun, even an assault weapon? Does anyone else see the out of control spiral here? When we buy guns because we are feeling fearful, we, in turn, increase the fear in everyone else. In the long run, is anyone safer?
