Letter: See you at the fair

keyboard, letter to the editor

To the Editor:

When starting to write this, I had just come from picking up the mail. I now have evidence that there will be a Sandwich Fair this year!

I received my Exhibitor Guide. Here is a quote from Larry Dannewitz, president of the Fair Association: “It’s time to prepare for some good old Sandwich Fair friendly competition. We firmly believe that you, our exhibitors, are the backbone of the Sandwich Fair and you never cease to amaze us.” I haven’t yet decided upon an exhibit, but I am thinking of entering a cherished picture of myself (in uniform) and my sister holding a copy of the Los Angeles Times with the enormous headline: PEACE AND VICTORY. This would have been V-J Day, victory over Japan.

Anyway, leafing through the Exhibitor Guide, one is reminded of the incredible variety of exhibits – the quilts, etc. in the Women’s Building, along with the baked goods. Of course, all the animals to be judged, the junior animals. We are always amazed at the variety of rabbits.

Of course, the fair is more than exhibits. At church Sunday, the pastor gave a pep talk about getting pies ready for the Log Cabin food stand. And then, there are the midway, evening shows, stuff sold at the gazebo and at the historical society trailer, worship on Sunday morning and on and on. Yes, it is early to anticipate the fair, but the guide got me excited! Ready, Set Go!
