A little drizzle can’t keep Santa Claus from lighting Montgomery’s Christmas tree

COVID-19 precautions were put into place for families to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus during Montgomery's tree lighting celebration Dec. 5.

A light rain may have made the ground wet, but the holiday spirits were high in downtown Montgomery Dec. 5, as community members of all ages turned out to watch Santa and Mrs. Claus light the Christmas tree outside of Village Hall in the village’s downtown.

After Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived and flipped the switch to light the tree, the Montgomery Merry & Bright festivities moved indoors, as the two met with children and families to hear Christmas wishes. While families waited in line, students from area schools including the Oswego East High School A Capella Jazz Ensemble and Tri-M Honor Society, Nicholson Elementary School and McDole Elementary School performed holiday tunes inside and outside of Village Hall.

Families could also check out the trees decorated by area businesses and organizations that were entered in the annual Festival of Trees, write a letter to Santa Claus, and participate in crafts and activities.

Area businesses contributed to the festive atmosphere, including Atrevete Confections and Gray’s Mill Estate, which passed out hot chocolate and cookies respectively, to chilly visitors.
