Plank Junior High assistant principal to lead Oswego’s Thompson Junior High School

Marcus Lewis has served in administrative roles for the past 16 years

The Oswego School District 308 Board of Education has unanimously approved the appointment of Marcus Lewis to the position of principal of Thompson Junior High School at 440 Boulder Hill Pass, Oswego, effective July 1.

Lewis has served as assistant principal at Plank Junior High School at 510 Secretariat Lane, Oswego, since 2017.

The Board approved Lewis’ appointment during a meeting May 10. District documents show that Lewis will earn a base salary of $98,000 for the 2021-2022 school year.

“I am extremely happy to promote Marcus Lewis to the position of principal within our district,” Superintendent Dr. John Sparlin said in a statement released by the district. “Mr. Lewis is a passionate, student centered educational leader who has done a great job in his current role at Plank. I am looking forward to the leadership he will provide as the next principal of Thompson Junior High School.”

Lewis has been in education for more than 20 years, serving in an administrative role for the past 16 years.

“As we move into the 2021-22 school year, I’m excited to join the Thompson Junior High School Tigers as we strive to overcome the numerous challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Lewis said in the statement.

Lewis continued, “Our inclusive and collective vision will drive our focus on high academic achievement and the social-emotional well-being of all Thompson students. I’m also looking forward to engaging with all the students, parents, staff and stakeholders to solidify partnerships that will uplift the learning community.”

Lewis earned a bachelor of science degree in education, health education, in May 1998, and his master of science in education, educational administration in December 2006, both from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. In 2019, Lewis successfully completed the educational specialist program with superintendent endorsement, also from Northern Illinois University.
