Mayor: Plano city staffers recovering from COVID-19

Two public works employees were hospitalized after virus sidelined five earlier this month

Five Plano city employees infected with COVID-19 have recovered and will return to work in the coming days, Mayor Bob Hausler confirmed Tuesday, Jan. 19.

City officials reported that four public works staff and one police officer had been infected by the virus earlier this month. Two of those public works employees had required hospitalization, City Engineer Nate Bullard told the city council at a Jan. 11 meeting.

“They’re doing well,” Hausler said of the infected employees. “I look for the majority of them to be back by next week.”

No further city employees have contracted the virus, the mayor said.

With so many public works staff out sick, the city had contingencies in place to seek outside support for possible snow removal. Hausler said the city was “very fortunate” that no major snow fall had occurred while the four employees were infected.

“We’re looking forward to getting everyone a vaccination - and hopefully that proceeds at a faster pace,” Hausler remarked.
