Berwyn teacher named assistant principal at Oswego’s Fox Chase Elementary School

The Oswego School District 308 Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Berwyn teacher Amy N. Steves to the position of assistant principal at Fox Chase Elementary School in Oswego, replacing Dr. Kelly Gilbert for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

Steves appointment was approved during the Jan. 11 meeting of the Board of Education.

Director of Elementary Education Dr. Lindsay Allen said, “Ms. Steves is a strong instructional leader with the ability to build strong relationships and will make a wonderful addition to Fox Chase and our elementary administrative team.”

District documents show that Steves will receive a base salary of $69,000, pro-rated for her start date.

Before joining OSD 308, Steves was employed as a junior high school English Language Arts teacher/MTSS team leader at Berwyn South School District 100. While at Berwyn, Steves developed and implemented a school-wide intervention program, as part of the district’s improvement plan.

Steves received a B.A. in English and a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Toledo, Toledo Ohio; a Juris Doctor from Loyola University School of Law, Chicago Illinois; M.S.Ed. in Elementary Education from Northwestern University School of Education and Social Policy, Evanston, Illinois; and a M.S.Ed. in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University.

“I am honored to be joining the stellar team at Fox Chase Elementary and Oswego Community Unit School District 308,” Steves said. “Together, we will ensure a positive, safe, and strong second half of the school year for our students.”
